Connecting Gmail with a Google App Password
Generate a 16-character App Password to connect Gmail for sending.
If you connect Gmail with a username and password (instead of one-click "Sign in with Google"), Gmail requires an App Password — a 16-character code you generate in your Google account. You use it as the email/SMTP password.
Enable a Google App Password
1. Open Google Account Security (myaccount.google.com/security).
2. Under "How you sign in to Google," select 2-Step Verification.
3. Complete setup using Google Prompt, an authenticator app, or a phone number.
4. Once 2-Step Verification is active, open App Passwords (myaccount.google.com/apppasswords).
5. Re-enter your Google password if prompted.
6. Enter an app name such as SimpleInbox.
7. Click Create.
8. Copy the generated 16-character password immediately — it's shown only once.
9. Use that value as the app's email/SMTP password (normally without spaces).
If the App Passwords page is unavailable
Google typically blocks it for one of these reasons: 2-Step Verification isn't enabled; 2-Step is configured only with security keys; Advanced Protection is on; or it's a work/school account whose administrator restricts App Passwords.
For a managed Google Workspace account, ask your administrator to allow 2-Step Verification / App Passwords. Where the app supports it, Google recommends using OAuth / "Sign in with Google" instead.
